What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is the Greek word for sleep chosen to describe the natural process of accessing subconscious thought where we store all our values, beliefs, habits and patterns. During this relaxed moment we can do two things, remove old unhealthy or unwanted values and replace them with new desirable ones. Hypnosis is goal oriented meditation. With unique access to such a powerful level of thought positive change can come very quickly. Can anyone be hypnotized? Anyone who wants to be can be. If you have reasonable intelligence, an imagination, motivated to change and enjoy being relaxed and focused hypnosis is for you. It's an association of trust and co-operation between the therapist and client. In addition, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The only 'power' a hypnotist has is the power to access their own subconscious mind. Think of a hypnotist as a tour guide. They point you in the direction of great vacation spots in your mind, which you may visit, if you choose. How can hypnosis help me? Hypnosis changes attitudes which is key to changing behavior. With hypnosis, a person is empowered, and made independent enough to solve their own problems. With hypnosis individuals change behaviors that would otherwise seem difficult, if not impossible, to alter. Is hypnosis medically approved? Hypnosis was first officially recognized as a viable therapeutic tool by the British Government through the Hypnotism Act in 1952. Then, in 1958 both the British and the American Medical Associations (AMA) sanctioned the official use of hypnosis by physicians. In 1958, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) also approved hypnotherapy for use by professionally responsible individuals. What are some applications? Weight loss, smoking cessation, relieving symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, athletic and musical performance, childbirth, anger management, headaches, hypertension, pain, test anxiety, panic, memory and study skills, anesthesia, skin conditions, traumas and phobias, sales, attitude, motivation. When will I see results? It certainly varies from client to client but many experience rapid positive change. To ensure lasting success all clients receive a complimentary audio cd of each session for home reinforcement. Does insurance cover hypnosis? Insurance companies rarely covers hypnosis services. You should expect to be responsible in full for your sessions. You will receive a detailed invoice so that you may pursue reimbursement if you like. Office fees
